|    |      In this project I set out to create a series of images of the nude form which would be interesting purely for their visual effect, not for the nakedness involved. The connotations of a nude photograph are manifold, including aspects of vulnerability, exhibitionism, and sexuality. My intent is to remove these complicating connotations from the surface of the photograph and conceal them behind the image — in its origin rather than its outcome. I aim to abstract the nudity into something visually interesting but neither voyeuristically nor erotically stimulating. The result is a series of what might be called anti-portraits: photographs of humans in their most exposed state, which intentionally ignore (and conceal) the human qualities of their subject. Perhaps this leads to a purer view of the human form— or perhaps the very act of ignoring the presence of nudity only emphasizes its importance with regards to the image's effect. |
